Responding to a supplementary question raised by MLA Achumbemo Kikon during the 14th Nagaland Assembly Session, on revenue generation during the Hornbill Festival, Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along today stated that all the sponsorships are transparent and that pilferage do not happen in the Hornbill Festival.
On the percentage added in the revenue by the Hornbill festival, Minister Along informed that from the total amount of Rs. 5,50,000,00(Rupees Five Crores and Fifty Lakhs) allocated to the Tourism Department by the State Government in 2023 to organize Hornbill Festival, another Rs 17,11.980 (seventeen lakhs eleven thousand nine hundred eighty) was added to the State Exchequer from various heads during the 24th edition of the Horbill Festival, which is about 3.1 percent of the total allocated money. “However, it may be taken into consideration that direct government revenue generation from the festive may not be treated as a priority. This can be considered as a beneficial trait as the actual investment of the government generates more than twenty fold times in return for the economic partners of the festival which are infused into the local economy,” stated Along.
